An international wholesaler specialising in East Asian food is looking for a Deputy Managing Director at their Milan branch.
In this role you will be responsible for supporting, promoting, and implementing the Directors’ strategic plan for Italy to increase market share, deliver value and service to customers, and optimise operations; while working to legal compliance and increasing company profit.
In this key role as a leader and right-hand of the Managing Director, you would be upholding company standards and reputation for Food Safety, Health & Safety; influencing positive company culture, and employee morale.

Italian speaking Deputy Managing Director Main Responsibilities:
• Partnering with the Managing Director to drive and implement the three-year strategy for making commercial decisions on major contracts
• Serve as Deputy to the Managing Director, responsible for overall company management in the absence of the MD
• Solid commitment to legal compliance and company audits to ensure adherence to local and global regulations and legislation
• Negotiate with customers and suppliers to create new business opportunities; liaise with relevant internal departments to optimise purchasing power and sales growth
• Track the company's market status and key performance indicators to identify areas for potential improvement
• Monitor the day-to-day operations within the company, paying particular attention to sales revenue and cost centres
• Drive the continuous improvement of best practice throughout the company
• Handle marketing needs, such as website, product catalogue, and brand identity to uphold and promote company’s reputation as a major wholesaler
• Understand working capital management and production of cash flow forecasts; coordinate with the MD and Financial Controller to ensure best practice is applied
• Keep abreast of financial data and monthly and annual reports; partnering with the MD and Finance Manager as custodians of company assets
• Promote the use of technological advances and software for operational optimisation and efficiency

Italian speaking Deputy Managing Director Ideal Candidate:
• Business level of fluency in both Italian and English
• Experience in Wholesale import business
• Previous experience in a senior leadership role essential
• Advanced degree in business, economics, finance, or a related field highly desirable
• Proven track record in increasing sales; and/or achieving cost-effective operations
• Great leadership and motivational skills
• In depth understanding of business principles and practices
• High levels of numeracy and literacy in English
• Organisational and planning skills
• Critical thinking and problem solving
• Solid communication skills, including written and verbal
• Flexible for business travel
• Some understanding of Japanese culture and Japanese language would be advantageous
